Royal Oaks Bar & Grill
About This Spot
Walking into Royal Oaks Bar & Grill, you immediately sense an unpretentious, lived-in charm that speaks to its place in Youngstown’s local fabric. It’s the kind of spot where the pace slows just enough to appreciate the hum of good company and the clink of glasses sharing stories. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a slightly rugged edge that embraces the imperfections of a well-loved neighborhood bar. Here, familiarity isn’t forced — it unfolds naturally, as regulars settle into easy conversations and newcomers find themselves welcomed by genuine smiles.
The mood is lively yet comfortably laid-back, a crossroads where folks gather for more than just a drink or a meal. There’s music in the air often — sometimes from local bands you’ve yet to discover, adding a touch of raw energy to the evening. The staff’s easygoing attentiveness complements the vibe, making it clear that here, you’re not just another face but part of an ongoing story.
Food at Royal Oaks is integral to the experience, served with a smoky, soulful heart. The kitchen leans into bold, comforting flavors — from tender ribs glazed in a uniquely tangy raspberry BBQ sauce to wings that carry a satisfying Cajun kick. These aren’t just plates to fill you up; they’re expressions of the bar’s character — imperfectly perfect with hints of smoky char, sticky sauces, and satisfying bites that invite you to linger a little longer.
Whether you’re settling in with a cold beer or finding your rhythm with a well-crafted Moscow Mule, the drink selection feels rooted in tradition with neighborhood flare. The bar’s genuine, no-frills spirit is what makes every visit feel like a reunion — a chance to savor not only robust flavors but also an enduring sense of community in the heart of Youngstown.

All five stars? Well, it must have been Saturday, I must have gotten a rack of ribs with extra sauce that were smoky good, and the bartender must have done a great job taking my order and getting me a beer. Seriously, I was absolutely impressed by the ribs. Cooked over charcoal or wood because the smoke ring was perfect, as were the ribs. No fat (NO fat!) and just a slight char on the ends. There are a lot of great rib joints around Youngstown, and since it's harder and harder to find roast lamb on Saturdays, ribs are my safety pick. The ribs at the Royal Oaks were perfect, better after I got them home and slapped them in a casserole and baked at 250 tightly wrapped for like 40 minutes. Absolutely great flavor that will impress anyone who likes a nice rack of ribs. (A comma can change the meaning of a sentence, but not always) $25 for just a rack, no sides.

If you know you know best barbecue in town... great atmosphere one of those places you don't find too much anymore..... Everybody's friends and everybody knows your name... Still bringing live music a lot of bands that people don't know but need to be heard they've always been on The cutting edge I would highly recommend this place if you want to go try some ribs or wings hear a good band or drink a Pabst Blue ribbon... This is the place these guys are like family

I met a friend here because I had heard they had a makeover a few years back thanks to Bar Rescue. I don't think they kept much of the upgrades, but the place is still fun and wild. We had a great time with the owner until he passed out on a cot in the middle of the floor. The waitress was super fun and very attentive. She even saved the place when she stayed later than required to keep the bar open for the patrons still there. I would recommend getting here early if you don't want the drama, late if you do.

This place is a little rough around the edges, but it's a Youngstown classic! The atmosphere is very cool and unique. Friendly crowd. Awesome service. A little slow with the food but they were training a new cook. You HAVE to try to RASPBERRY BBQ sauce. Super unique and yummy!

My new favorite hang out! The wings are amazing, the prices are great. Service is wonderful. Plus it's a historic building in Youngstown so why not stop and visit. It's cozy with a laid back atmosphere where you can just relax with friends.
